Sumcab Tailor Made Cables was selected by the Canary Oceanic Platform (PLOCAN) to carry out the manufacture of a special extra flexible and submarine cable for the EMSODev project (European multidisciplinary seafloor and water-column oservatory development).
The cable will be connected in open sea between the floating platform and the EGIM device (Prototype to standardize European oceanographic observatories). The EGIM works at a depth of 40m and is 200m away from the platform. This device is an observatory prototype equipped with sensitive sensors, such as a current profiler and a hydrophone as well as temperature, conductivity, chlorophyll, turbidity and oxygen sensors.
The Submarine cable developed by Sumcab has very special features to be able to safely transmit energy and data in the same hose. Able to withstand high traction, bending and torsion stress, high mechanical resistance, water and compression resistance

Proyecto EMSODev
The global goal of EMSODEV is to promote the full implementation and operation of the distributed EMSO research infrastructure, through the development, testing and implementation of an EMSO Module of Generic Instruments (EGIM). This module will ensure accurate, consistent, comparable, regional-scale and long-term measurements of ocean parameters, which are key to address urgent social and scientific challenges such as climate change, alteration of the ocean ecosystem and marine hazards. This will result in the increased interoperability of EMSO nodes thanks to the harmonized gathering of fundamental, temporal and variable ocean series. In addition, EGIM will also help optimize investments and the operational efficiency of the EMSO research infrastructure by improving the effectiveness of research facilities and their appeal to member states and users, including the industry.
